Adventure Fishing in Australia
To say that Australia is a land of extremes would be an understatement. From the island of Tasmania that sits between 40o and 44o latitude South to Cape York at the far Northern tip in the tropics, from the deserts of the ‘Red Centre’ to the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia really does have it all.
Arguably, for me anyway, the best place in Australia for adventure fishing is in the Kimberley region of West Australia. With the area being so isolated due to its immense river systems, rough roads and, although none of the mountains reach even 1,000 metres (3,281 ft), there is so much steep land that it makes much of the region very difficult to negotiate.
But there is an up side to the difficulties presented by the isolation, such as the share numbers and size of the fish!
Now, I must point out that I myself have never been to the Kimberley’s as I suffer badly from a persistent and unrelenting back injury. I am, however, in love with the area and more specifically in love with the fishing in the Kimberley’s. How can this be possible you ask?
Well, thanks to Jase & Rodo, a couple of Aussie Blokes who really are modern day adventurers; I feel that I’ve been there!
Jason Andrews and Rodney Quinton are living the dream. These two guys are either completely mad or unbelievably lucky! After watching their first DVD, I was hooked (no pun intended).
The thing about their DVD’s is that they are raw – what you see is exactly what happened – no camera crew, no production team and no script and as far as I can tell there is barley a plan! Like I said, they are completely mad or unbelievably lucky!
I came across a video trailer of their first DVD on YouTube and from there I became a fan!
The following is the description on the back of there first DVD; Kimberley Fishing Adventures-Part 1.

What it doesn’t say is the distance travelled just to get there. In the DVD they explain that they are from Noosa in South East Queensland and travel some 5000 km (3106 miles) covering 2 states and 1 territory just to go fishing – that’s keen!
As I write this article, I am assuming that they are back from the Kimberley’s because it is now considered the wet season. It would be quite literally impossible to get to the place they went due to the fact that some of the roads and certainly most of the tracks they travelled will be under water! I think my next article might be about the wet. It is amazing how a place so dry can get so flooded so quickly and this happens every year – the animals and plants count on it! But anyway, that’s another story.

Their site is raw and far from slick, but all their DVDs are there and there is some good reading and maps as well.
These two boys from Oz have given me a way to feel like I’ve been somewhere really cool.
